Vaughan’s project plan is what pulled it all together for me, as he outlines his “mission statement” for this graphic, what he hoped to accomplish with it, and his methods for doing so. I don’t know if this story was in the news at the time, but I certainly didn’t remember it. Because I read the deluxe edition, there is quite a bit of back matter (including early outlines and project plans from the author), which meant that I was completely caught off guard at the end of the story and found it very upsetting. ![]() They venture out into the city and encounter all sorts of unexpected things.
